Profound vs Peec AI
depth of instrument against speed to a work list

Quick answer
Profound and Peec AI both report how AI assistants describe your company, and they are built to support different decisions. Profound is the deeper instrument: it reads AI crawler and agent traffic arriving at your own domain, works with real conversation data alongside its own scheduled prompt runs, and segments the picture by market and product line. Peec AI gets you to an action faster: its cited sources view hands you the third party domains the models actually quoted when answering questions in your category, which converts into a plan for next month without translation. Neither can tell you whether your own pages return readable HTML to a crawler that does not execute JavaScript, which is the failure that invalidates everything both of them measure.
What each product is built to do
Profound is an AI search visibility platform sold into the enterprise end of the market from New York. It is a set of related surfaces rather than one report: scheduled prompt runs against the major assistants recording mentions, descriptions, competitors and cited URLs; a conversation analysis surface working from real user query data rather than from a prompt list somebody on your team invented; and an agent analytics surface reading traffic on your own domain and reporting which AI crawlers arrived and what they fetched.
Peec AI is built by a Berlin company and runs the standard loop of the category, cleanly. You define prompts a buyer might plausibly ask, the product runs them against the major assistants and the Google AI surfaces on a schedule, and it records whether you appeared, where in the answer, which competitors appeared alongside you, and which URLs were cited. Around that sit competitor comparison, share of voice over time, per client workspaces and reporting built to be handed to somebody who is paying you.
The lazy reading of this comparison is enterprise option against small option, and it is wrong often enough to be worth correcting. The real split is which decision you are trying to make. Profound is built to answer where an existing investment is already working, at what granularity, and with what evidence you can take into a budget meeting. Peec AI is built to answer what to go and do about it. A large company with no off domain plan gets more out of the second question than the first.
| Dimension | Profound | Peec AI |
|---|---|---|
| Data provenance | Mixed and deliberately so. Agent traffic against your own origin is observed. Conversation data is real. Prompt runs are sampled. Prompt volume estimates are modelled. | Sampled throughout, and not evasive about it. Scheduled prompt responses recorded and stored, which is the correct method for engines that publish nothing. |
| View of your own origin | Partial, and best in the category. Sees which agents reached your server and what they requested. Sees nothing about a crawler rejected upstream at the edge. | None. A prompt tracker never touches your origin, so a blocked crawler and an empty first response are both invisible to it. |
| Whether your HTML contains your copy | Not covered. | Not covered. |
| Cited source detail, the third gate | Deep. Source level enough to build an off domain placement programme from, which is where the work lives once your pages are readable. | Best in class as an artefact. The sources view is a work list rather than a metric, and it is the single most useful output any product in this category produces. |
| Segmentation | By region, product line and buyer segment. This is the reason large organisations buy it and it is genuinely hard to replicate. | Brand and competitor level, per workspace. Enough for one product in one market, thin once the answer differs by geography. |
| Shape for an agency | Possible, and heavy. Built around one organisation looking closely at itself. | Native. Client separation and forwardable reporting are structural rather than bolted on. |
| Operating burden | Heavy. Assumes a named owner who opens it weekly and changes something because of what they saw. High ceiling and a high floor. | Light. Set up quickly, readable by a junior without a training session, which is why it gets opened. |
| The decision it supports | Where is the existing investment working, at what granularity, and can I evidence it to a finance committee. | Which specific third party pages should we go and influence next. |
Where Profound wins
Agent analytics is the win that matters and it is not close. Every other product in this category, Peec AI included, observes the output side: what the models said when asked. Agent analytics observes the input side, which is whether the machines building those answers ever reached you at all. Those are different questions with different failure modes, and a team that only ever sees the output side can spend a quarter rewriting content on a site the crawlers were never served properly.
- Segmentation by market, product line or buyer, which is the difference between a brand level number and an answer somebody can act on in one region
- Conversation data as an input, rather than only prompts your own team thought to write down, which removes one of the largest sources of self flattery in the category
- Source level depth sufficient to defend a budget line rather than to report a score that moved
- Entity correction, which is the strongest use of the product and rarely the one it is sold on. When an assistant describes what you sell incorrectly, the visibility number is beside the point and the accuracy field is the emergency
- A published record of method and research, which in a category where most claims are unfalsifiable by construction is a real differentiator and should be said plainly by a competitor
One caveat belongs inside the win rather than underneath it. Prompt volume estimates are modelled, and they should be read the way you read keyword volume in a classic SEO suite: directionally useful, precise looking, and not a measurement. No vendor has access to the query logs of the assistants. Use those figures to rank prompts against each other and never to forecast anything.
Where Peec AI wins
The cited sources view is the win, and it is worth more than any share of voice chart either product will draw for you. When an assistant answers a buying question in your category it cites something. If that something is a comparison roundup, a directory, a forum thread or a competitor blog post, you have been handed the map. Getting accurately represented on those specific pages is the one gate you cannot fix by editing your own website, and a product that hands you the exact list has done the hard part of the strategy.
- Time to a decision. A tool a junior can open, read and act on without a training session is a tool that gets opened, and an unread dashboard measures nothing
- Agency shape. Workspaces, client separation and reporting that survives being forwarded are built in, and rebuilding a client report in a slide deck every month is a real cost nobody prices
- A low floor. The failure mode of a heavy platform is an expensive tab nobody has open, and the failure mode of a light one is that you outgrow it, which is the better problem
- Honest method framing. Prompt sampling on a fixed schedule is what we recommend teams do by hand for the engines that publish nothing, so a product that automates the manual method properly is a legitimate product
- Reversibility. You can start here, learn what you actually want to know, and move up without having lost anything except a history you had not learned to read yet
It is worth looking closely at one cited surface before you try to appear on twenty. The directory our parent company publishes is a fair specimen of the format: category structure, per entry detail, and an editorial position that decides who gets listed and who does not. Earning a place on that kind of page in your own category is slow manual work with no dashboard attached to it, and it is the part of AI visibility that no subscription performs for you.
Who should pick which
- Pick Profound if AI search visibility belongs to one named person, the answer changes by region or product line, and somebody has to defend the budget with source level evidence rather than with a score that moved
- Pick Profound if you already suspect the assistants describe your company inaccurately at scale and you need the evidence in a form a leadership meeting will accept without translation
- Pick Peec AI if you are an agency, because client separation and forwardable reporting are structural requirements and retrofitting them costs more than the subscription
- Pick Peec AI if your next move is off domain, because the sources view converts directly into an outreach and placement plan and nothing else in the category does that as cleanly
- Pick Peec AI if the honest description of your team is one marketer covering the whole funnel, because the heavier product will be admired in month one and abandoned in month three
- Pick neither, yet, if you have never fetched your own homepage with a crawler user agent and read what came back
That last line is not a rhetorical flourish and it is the most expensive misdiagnosis we see. Both products will faithfully report a low visibility number for a site whose pages return an empty root element to a non rendering crawler, and neither will offer any clue that this is the cause. You will then buy content to fix a rendering problem. Establish that your pages are readable first, then buy the instrument that matches the decision you are making, and the subscription starts earning from week one instead of month four.
Disclosure: we are not a neutral party
InboundPros is part of the Outbound Pros group, and the group sells managed outbound. A company that fills its pipeline through AI search citations is a company that never books a call with us, so the structural bias in this comparison points against both products and against the category. There is no affiliate arrangement with either vendor and no commission on any tool named on this site. What we can offer in place of neutrality is specificity: every claim above names the mechanism behind it, and we have called a competitor feature best in class, which is not what you write when the goal is to win. The full write ups sit at our review of Profound and our review of Peec AI, and both carry the same disclosure.
Questions we get asked about this pair
Can I run both?
You can, and for most companies it is a waste. The overlap is the prompt tracking layer, which is the bulk of both products, and the non overlapping parts are agent analytics on one side and the cited sources view on the other. If you genuinely need both of those, the cheaper path is usually to keep the light tracker for the work list and get crawler visibility from your own server logs, which you already own and which nobody has to sell you.
Which one measures ChatGPT visibility more accurately?
Neither measures it, and be careful with any vendor that says otherwise. OpenAI publishes no first party citation reporting, so every figure either product shows you about ChatGPT is a sample of model output rather than a measurement of your visibility. Profound samples more carefully and supplements with conversation data, which narrows the gap without closing it. The accuracy question worth asking either vendor is not whether the data is right but which rows are observed and which are inferred.
Will either tell me if AI crawlers can read my site?
Partly, and only one of them. Profound agent analytics shows which crawlers reached your server and what they requested, which is more than any dedicated tracker offers. It will not tell you whether the HTML you returned contained your body copy or an empty root element, and it cannot see a crawler that a firewall or CDN rule rejected before it arrived. Peec AI sees none of it. Both checks take about ten minutes with curl and they decide whether anything else in either product matters.
What should be in place before I buy either one?
Three free things, in order. Confirm that a documented AI crawler user agent gets a 200 from your origin and that the returned HTML contains your actual copy. Switch on the AI reporting in Bing Webmaster Tools and Search Console, because those are measured rather than sampled and they cost nothing. Then run a frozen panel of twenty to thirty prompts by hand for one month so you know what you want a product to automate. Buy when the repetition is the bottleneck rather than when the curiosity is.
Free and ungated. It prints the command that fetches your page without JavaScript execution, then scores what comes back on crawler access, extractable HTML, answer formatting, schema coverage and entity consistency.
